How we learn.
Individual study builds knowledge. Community gives that knowledge context, meaning and life.
Support with depth.
Each student follows their own academic programme through their registered school or homeschooling provider. At Greenhouse, tutors help them organise their study, clarify subject content and prepare for exams and milestones. The aim is not only to cover the content, but to build understanding, critical thinking and intellectual autonomy.
We are small on purpose. Students are grouped by what they are doing, not by the year they were born: by level and interest for study, and in mixed ages for projects and community life. Every student has a primary tutor who knows their path well.
Your child's programme, supported every day.
Students may follow Portuguese, British or American programmes through their schools and homeschooling providers. Our tutors know these pathways well and support students within each of them, with subject tutoring, structured study time and preparation for exams such as the Portuguese equivalency exams.
Where programmes overlap, students meet in shared sessions such as humanities, Portuguese as a first or second language, creative writing, science investigations and the arts, so learning is shared rather than isolated.
How we learn, grow and live together
Three ideas shape everything we do. Projects are where students practise them, each one starting with a simple question: who is this project helping students become?
01
How we learn
✓ In depth, with rigour and time
✓ Thinking well and asking good questions
✓ Starting from curiosity, connected to the world
02
How we grow
✓ Autonomy, held by structure
✓ Challenge, with closeness and care
✓ Different people, different paths
03
How we live together
✓ Learning through relationships
✓ Collaboration, debate and dialogue
✓ Belonging that gives the path continuity
Beyond the books.
Afternoons are for arts, sport, projects, cultural experiences and hands-on learning. Our sessions also make room for communication, study techniques, wellbeing, ethics, current affairs and different worldviews, with cooperative learning that turns community life into a chance to build autonomy and responsibility.
Students help look after the house and shared spaces, take part in lunch and community life, and spend time outdoors, in the village and on outings. It is a deliberately screen-light environment.
