Our story.
Greenhouse began with one question: what qualities and skills will our children need to thrive in a world shaped by technology?
Where it began.
Greenhouse began with a personal wish: a freer, more human way of learning, fitted to each child's rhythm, without giving up quality, rigour or depth. It grew from a shared vision between Sara, a parent whose children were thriving at Escola CRIAR, and Sofia, founder and pedagogical director of CRIAR.
One question shaped everything: how do you build meaningful learning paths outside traditional school without losing structure, intellectual depth and community? In September 2024 the seed was planted, and in September 2025 Greenhouse opened its doors in a house in Areia, Cascais.
We believe educational freedom reaches its full potential when it rests on structure, community and qualified tutors.
Our mission is to cultivate a learning community where students build meaningful paths with structure, intellectual depth and human care. Through mentoring, collaboration and learning alongside others, we support each student in developing the knowledge, autonomy, critical thinking and sense of purpose to take part in the world consciously and responsibly.
Our vision is a more plural, human and intellectually demanding approach to learning, where different paths can exist with rigour, depth and legitimacy.
Not simply that students will know more, but that they will become more.
Our values
Eight values shape how we learn and live together, every day.

BEING
Grounded growth

Structure, community, mentorship.
Structure. Clear guidance and an organised path, so freedom never means being left alone with it.
Community. Learning alongside peers and trusted adults, through dialogue, collaboration and shared enquiry.
Mentorship. Qualified tutors who know each student well and support both intellectual and personal growth.
Individual study builds knowledge; community gives that knowledge context, meaning and life.
The Ideal Graduate Profile.
Before we opened, we asked who we hope our students become: responsible, emotionally intelligent, ethical and humanist. Critical thinkers and innovators. Strong communicators who use technology with purpose.
The profile is more than a vision statement. It is the direction every project, every mentoring conversation and every reflection points towards, alongside the academic programme each student follows with their school or homeschooling provider.
Our tutors.
We choose our tutors for their values and mindset as much as their experience. They are lifelong learners from a multidisciplinary team with strong academic and scientific backgrounds, including tutors with PhDs.
Every student has a primary tutor who knows their path, holds their goals and is the family's main point of contact through the year. No student learns in isolation, and no family carries the path alone.
